Welcome to the District.
Just Passing Through …
Hail a taxi to The White House, snap some photos and wave hysterically at the Oval Office as if the President can actually see you! Oh, and take a stroll through Chinatown, grab a slice of pizza from &Pizza and catch one of the performances on the corner of H St. NW. Capisce!
Start with the above + go sightseeing in the National Mall! Afterall, I’m sure that’s why you’re visiting… Have brunch at Medium Rare on Capitol Hill, and then walk down the street to Eastern Market to feast your eyes on some pretty awesome crafts. Careful not to spend all of your money because the market is BOMB!
The Train is This Way →
Skip Uber or Lyft, and try the metrorail! Simply download the iTrans DC Metro app on your phone, and you’ll have everything you need to know right at your fingertips. Here’s a map of the metrorail for your convenience, and if you get lost just ask someone for help! They won’t bite!
Let’s Eat: Food for the Soul
Just because The District is in the northeast doesn’t mean we have not mastered down home, soulful eats! For fine, southern cuisine, run not walk to Georgia Brown’s! Also, try these other scrumptious options: Oohh’s & Aahh’s or Florida Avenue Grill.
If you love an awesome brunch deal with bottomless anything like I do, then Masa 14 is your spot! They offer an ‘UNLIMITED PRIX FIXE BRUNCH‘ where you can choose as many brunch items as you like from the entire selection of brunch plates. Did I mention that this Includes a selection of brunch drinks as well??
For a quick bite, and hand spun milkshake if you will, Good Stuff Eatery is your place to go! Their farmhouse, handcrafted hamburgers and awesome sauceS, they have multiple to choose from FREE of charge, are the perfect lunchtime fix!
TIP : Try the Prez Obama Burger and Spike’s Village Fries! The fries are topped with fresh thyme, rosemary, & sea salt!
Check out Soupergirl for a healthy, delicious meal! All of their ingredients are from local farms, and everything is in season! There are no crazy processed ingredients and everything is certified kosher! Guys, they have a serious, weekly soup variety that will send you over the top and running back to see what’s on the soup menu each week!
TIP : The gazpacho is a-ma-zing. Try it!
a Fine Dining Experience …
Holy pasta! These are the perfect words to describe Siroc, a high-end Italian restaurant, in Northwest D. C. It offers a chic, polished dining experience like no other as their hand-made pasta is the highlight of the menu. Mix their cozy candlelit table in the winter, or sunny park-side patio when it’s warm out, with a scrumptious dish and a glass of wine and voilà! The perfect fine dining experience.
The District is commonly considered the second largest Ethiopian city in the world. This means that we have a huge variety of Ethiopian fare! My all time favorite is Ethiopic who features a killer Doro Key Wot that is superb, oh and SPICY! The ambiance is very cozy and unique as it features decor inspired by Ge’ez’s elegant scripts, Ethiopian culture, and modern styles. It’s also the first Ethiopian Restaurant on the H Street Corridor.
Do the Brew
Calling all Stevie Wonder and Elton John fans! City Tap House is the place to be! They offer about 40 drafts, which includes my favorite….Southern Belle Brown Ale! I’m sure you can imagine why. It is spiked with cocoa nibs and vanilla bean for a smooth taste.
SIDENOTE : For a really nice wine bar, check out Sonoma!
